from
£8,990

Route 40, is a long beautiful route from Patagonia to Altiplano in Argentina. When cars became common and accessible to all, people preferred to travel in their own vehicles rather than in trains. Thus in 1935, Route 40 was born. The famous Route 40, covers a distance of over 5,000 km and crosses Argentina from the North to the South. It also connects the Bolivian border to Cabo Virgenes.

On this epic journey of Route 40, we discover the most diverse Argentinean landscapes and sites such as the glacier Perito Moreno, the Cueva de las Manos, the immense Lake Argentino, Viedma, Buenos Aires and Nahuel Huapi. We drive along with mountain ranges and admire the mythical summits like Fitz Roy and San Lorenzo. Then we immerse ourselves in the heart of the forests, lakes and mountains of “Argentinian Switzerland”.  Then we go through the enchanting vineyards at the heart of Argentina. In the North, we experience the wilder part of the Argentinian soil such as driving through the high altitudes and sandy deserts.

For anyone looking to have a road trip where every mile tells a different story, then Route 40 is a must to take.

—– END OF THE PROGRAM —–
For unpredictable reasons at this stage of climatic vagaries, of shape or form of the participants or others (state of the roads, traffic, case of absolute necessity … ), your guide may need to adapt the program, if necessary, for the smooth running of your trip. He remains the sole judge and guarantor of your safety.

Accommodation and meals

ACCOMMODATION
In a hotel of good standards in all the places. In the north, accommodations can be often simpler and sometimes rustic. (Base: double room).

MEALS
In the cities of many small (or large) restaurants we can discover the typical local cuisine. Water: plan pellets (Micropur type or others) to disinfect the water you put in your bottle, depending on the source and on the advice of your guide. You can also buy mineral water on site (not included in the price) but its ecological balance is mediocre, as you know. Also, we do not recommend it.

No visa for UK, Belgian or Swiss nationals, for a stay of less than three months. For other nationalities, inquire at the consulate or embassy. Passport requirement valid and valid for 6 months after the date of return. However, a visa will be required if your flight stops in the USA (see ESTA simplified online procedure). These formalities may change and we thank you for checking the conditions of entry with the consular authorities of the country visited. Each traveler is responsible for compliance with these formalities.

The level of this trip is quite easy. Short walks that do not require athlete skills. Nevertheless, to enjoy your trip, being in good health and in good health is a significant asset that can withstand the discomfort and fatigue of travel. Sometimes we move to isolated environments where the safety of the group depends on the endurance and autonomy of each participant.

For your trip, plan 15 to 18 kg maximum, outside of your hand luggage, even if in most flights you will be entitled to 20 kg in the hold and 10 kg in the cabin. There is no point in being too busy and a little space is available to bring back memories. Attention, any extra and overweight bag will be charged directly by the airline during check-in. If you have domestic flights, check that there are no specific baggage restrictions. Finally, note that security checks have become very strict at airports: put the knives, scissors, nail files in your hold bag, the same for bottles and tubes of more than 100 ml

Though each person has their own preference for the type of bag, here is what we recommend;

  • A large, flexible travel bag. This luggage must be resistant (use a cover if necessary). You can also protect your belongings from dust or moisture by storing them in one or more plastic bags inside your bag. Four or five covers (ventilated) of different sizes can compartmentalize your things in your bag, which is handy.
  • A backpack of 35/40 litres for your personal belongings during the day or half-day of hiking. It will also serve you as hand luggage and cabin during air transport.
  • A banana bag or a small cover, thin enough to be camouflaged under a jacket or T-shirt, can be convenient to put your personal papers, passport and insurance, credit card and some banknotes, prescriptions on medical treatments personal, etc.

CLOTHES
The technique is immutable! You need several layers to add or remove depending on the temperature and your activity. You’ll be able to wash some quick-drying things on the way, including underwear and socks. For T-shirts, underwear and socks, plan to change 2-3 times a week if you do not wash anything on the way. In countries with insects, prefer dark coloured clothes (but neither black nor dark blue).

  • Rain cape
  • Windjacket
  • Pants and fleece jacket
  • First layer technical clothing, top and bottom.
  • Shirts
  • Lightweight canvas trousers
  • Fine synthetic fibre gloves.
