  1. Day 1 Dambulla Cave Temple

    On arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport, you will get your first taste of warm Sri Lankan hospitality. A representative from Expeds will welcome you and you will be transferred to your hotel in Dambulla.

    Check in at hotel and relax.

    In the afternoon, explore the Dambulla Cave Temple.

    In the city of Dambulla lies a hub which has been treasured by many kings since the 1st century B.C. Today, an icon in the face of Sri Lanka Dambulla Rock Temple houses some of the most unique drawings in magnificently constructed 5 cave temples flanking the golden temple of Dambulla. Observe how exquisitely cave paintings are done along walls that shelter 150 statues of Lord Buddha. As you enter the retreat look straight up to the gigantic Buddha statue glittering in gold over a land which today houses an important junction in the country’s economic and cultural uplifting.

    Return to the hotel.

    Airport Transfer to Dambulla – approx 3-3.5hrs.

  2. Day 2 DAMBULLA – RANAMUREGAMA – MEEMURE – KNUCKLES

    After an early breakfast, we drive to Ranamuregama via Bakamuna for our Trek from Narangamuwa Temple.

    The trek will take you on a scenic journey through villages and paddy fields. You will be led to an isolated region through a forest patch that will bring you to a very remote village in Meemure.

    By this time you would have entered the Knuckles mountain range where your trek will take you alongside streams and waterfalls with crystal clear water. The path used for this trek was once used by villagers to go from one village to the next but is now more or less a no man’s land where you will only see an occasional villager passing by if you’re lucky.

    Upon reaching the village, stop for a traditional Sri Lankan lunch.

    As you continue your trek you will experience breathtaking fauna and very unique bio diversity, where you can enjoy a rich source of bird life and butterflies. However, since rains are a norm in the Island, there are possibilities of encountering leeches – for which you need to be adequately prepared.

    Overnight stay in Knuckles

     

    Dambulla to Ranamuregama : approx. 1 ½ – 2 hours

    Trek to Meemure – approx. 5 – 6 hours (15 km)

    Knuckles : 1,380 Meters above mean sea level

  3. Day 3 KNUCKELS – KANDY – NUWARA ELIYA

    Early in the morning you will proceed to Kandy, to board a local train at the Kandy Train station and enjoy a scenic journey through mountains, waterfalls and tea estates…

    * Recommended to carry a packed breakfast arranged by the hotel

    * Kindly note that Train tickets can only be confirmed 20 days prior to the train travel date.

    Hop off the train at Watagoda Train Station and commence your tea plantation trek.

    This trek to Nanu Oya will give you the privilege of experiencing the contrast in the climate change from very warm to moderately cool. This trek will take you through proper tea plantations with beautiful views of more mountains, endless tea plantations as well as tea factories. You will continue the trek until you reach the ‘Great Western’ railway station which is yet another beautiful and scenic railway station in the hill country. You will stop close to the station at a relaxing resting area where you will be able to enjoy a unique delicious lunch based on South Asian (Indian) cuisine which is wildy available in the region.

    After lunch we’ll continue our trek to Nanu Oya via Radalla – which is a trek that takes you through more high grown tea plantations passing villages & isolated forest reserves.

    Upon reaching Nanu-oya you will be driven to Nuwara Eliya (the Little England of Sri Lanka) for overnight stay.

    Nuwara Eliya is a city, in the hill country of the Central Province, Sri Lanka. The city is the most important locations for tea cultivation and well known for its cool climate being the coolest area in Sri Lanka. Many of the buildings have still preserved features from the colonial period. Many private homes have also maintained their old English-style lawns and gardens. The town wakes up with many activities in April for the Sinhalese and Tamil New year. Main allure during April season include the motor and horse racing events.

    Overnight stay in Nuwara Eliya

    Knuckles to Kandy : approx. 2 hours

    Nanu Oya to Nuwara Eliya : approx. 20 minutes

    Train journey – approx. 4 hours

    Tea Plantation trek – approx. 5-6 hours (18 km)

    Nuwara Eliya : 1,868 Meters above mean sea level

  4. Day 4 NUWARA ELIYA – KIRIGALPOHTHA – HORTON PLAINS – NUWARA ELIYA

    Early in the morning we’ll trek to Kirigalpoththa with a packed breakfast.

    Second tallest mountain in the island of paradise reaching up to 2,388 meters (7,835 ft). A moderate hike where the trail begins at Horton Plains Park and with an elevation gain of 252 meters. As you trek to reach the summit you will notice many tall trees with mottled white bark, which is how the name of the mountain came to being.

    Next trek to Horton Plains and Worlds End.

    Experience the micro climatic zone of highlands at World’s End which is a high windy plateau at the elevation of 2100m from sea level consisting of beautiful grassland and cloud forests. Horton Plains National Park in Ohiya is a protected area in the central highlands of Sri Lanka and is covered by montane grassland and cloud forest. This plateau at an altitude of 2,100–2,300 metres (6,900–7,500 ft) is rich in biodiversity and many species found here are endemic to the region.

    Overnight stay in Nuwara Eliya

    Nuwara Eliya to Kirigalpoththa (at Horton Plains) : approx. 1 hour

    Kirigalpoththa: approx. 3 ½ – 4 hours

    Horton Plains: approx. 3 hours

    Kirigalpoththa : 2,388 Meters above mean sea level

    Horton Plains : 2,021 Meters above mean sea level

  5. Day 5 NUWARA ELIYA – BANDARAWELA

    After breakfast, you will proceed to Bandarawela.

    Commence your countryside trek to Heel Oya village, a traditional Sri Lankan farming Villages located 8 km from Bandarawela. This beautiful Villages comprises of about 300/350 farming families and farming is carried out using traditional methods. Terraced rice fields with beautifully built watch huts to protect the crops are visible everywhere. The Heel oya stream which vends its way through the rice fields/Vegetable plots and surrounding forests adds to the scenic beauty of the region.

    Trekking in the terraced rice fields/Tea and vegetable cultivation is a truly novel experience which you can get only in this part of the world. The Farmers and indeed the entire Village are very cooperative and work together as one large family. There are plenty of opportunities for trekking in and around rice fields, forested areas and mountains. Enjoy a traditional village lunch followed by a visit to Makul Ella and Kithal Ella.

    Return to the hotel and spend the rest of your day at leisure.

    Trek : approx. 5 hours

    Bandarawela : 1,224 Meters above mean sea level

  6. Day 6 BANDARAWELA – SOUTHERN COAST

    Early morning, you will drive to Dambatenne Tea Estate with a packed breakfast, where we will commence trekking to Lipton Seat.

    Trek through tea bushes on narrow paved roads for about 7 km to reach the top. If you are a keen observer you will notice that certain parts of the road reflect some of the original stone constructions from the British era of Ceylon. Enjoy the magnificent view from the top.

    Next you will proceed to the Southern coast of the island.

    En-route make a stop at the Elephant Transit Home in Udawalawe.

    Experience bottle feeding of elephants at the Transit Home. Funded by Born Free Foundation the Transit Home takes care of baby elephants until they are independent and release them back to the wild.

    Proceed to your beach resort, and spend the rest of your day at leisure.

    Trek to Lipton Seat: approx. 3 ½ – 4 hours

    Elephant Transit Home: approx. 1 hour

    Ahangama : 16 Meters above mean sea level

    The Elephant Transit Home feeding time commences at 1500 hours and tickets are issued 30 minutes prior.

  7. Day 7 Southern Coast

    Spend the day at your own leisure, soaking up the unique culture that the South of the Island has to offer.

  8. Day 8 Transfer to Airport

    Transfer to Airport approx 2.5hrs.

All above hotel rates are subjected to revision as and when government taxes are revised, when respective hotel managements revise rates or due to any currency fluctuations experienced at a given time.

Transfer times mentioned above are without stops and are subject to change with the change in weather conditions/ road conditions.

Bars, Clubs or similar entertainment is prohibited during “Poya” Days. As such, liquor will not be served in public areas of the hotels during this time.

Kindly note that the general check in time to all hotels will be at 1400 hrs and check out is at 1200 hrs

Visas

You will need a visa to enter Sri Lanka. You can get a short stay visa online at: Electronic Travel Authority (ETA).. Tourist visas are normally issued for a maximum period of 30 days. Although it’s still possible to get a tourist visa on arrival, it’s better to get one before you travel. If you arrive in Sri Lanka without a visa, you could face delays. For the most up-to-date advice on visas check with the Sri Lankan High Commission in the UK. If you experience any difficulty with the ETA System, or if you’re travelling for paid or unpaid work, you should get a visa from the Sri Lankan High Commission before you travel.

Overstaying your visa will attract a fine and possible detention and deportation. If you have overstayed your visa, you must report to the Department of Immigration & Emigration

Visas on arrival have been suspended for all travellers arriving from Sierra Leone and Guinea.

Passport validity

Your passport should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months from the date of entry to Sri Lanka.

UK Emergency Travel Documents

UK Emergency Travel Documents are accepted for entry, airside transit and exit from Sri Lanka.

Yellow fever certificate requirements
