  1. Day 1 Hanoi Arrival

    Welcome to Vietnam! On arrival in Hanoi, we pick you up and transfer you to your hotel for check in.

    This day is free at your leisure: Get to know the bustling city of Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. Hanoi is a city with many interesting sights; the bustling old town with its street food, Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum, numerous museums, French colonial buildings, the lakes, the famous Long Bien Bridge and the clever and funny water puppet show. It’s your choice, you can take a walk just outside your hotel or you can visit a local house in Long Bien in the outskirts of Hanoi and learn how to make some tasty Vietnamese traditional food whilst having a friendly chat with the locals.

    In the evening, there are chances to attend cultural shows and listen to interesting traditional folk songs such as Ca Tru, Tuong or Cheo in the Old Quarter. If you arrive in the weekend, you can join the lively night market in the old town, too. Stay overnight in Hanoi.

  2. Day 2 Hanoi – Bac Ha

    After having breakfast at your hotel at around 7:30 AM, we leave Hanoi for Bac Ha, a friendly and non-touristy mountain town which makes a relaxed base to explore the Northern highlands and hill tribe villages. On arrival in Bac Ha, you can visit the town and settle for some lunch at a local restaurant with magnificent views of the mountains and the surroundings. Take an enjoyable afternoon walk to visit the minority villages of the Hmong Hoa and the Tay to get a glimpse of village life and get your first impression of the Northern Vietnam Hill Tribe culture. Overnight in Bac Ha town.

  3. Day 3 Bac Ha – Ban Pho – Ta Van Chu

    Having breakfast at hotel, check out, Cross hillsides with a moderate slope, view the valleys and terraced spans, the hidden villages of the H’Mong Hoa people. The trails will take you in the pristine natural scenes of mountains and forests and the fresh, natural atmosphere. We will have a picnic lunch by the romantic stream or forests. All will be completely natural and bring you the most peaceful feeling. In the afternoon, we will continue the journey, visiting villages and inhabited place of H’mong people. We will spend the night at Homestay, enjoy special food and learn about the customs and habits of indigenous people. Stay at homestay of H’mong people.

  4. Day 4 Ta Van Chu – Lung Phinh

    Lung Phinh – a place formed from a long time, located in a valley shaped in a basin surrounded by the same message in the hills. Coming here, visitors will have the opportunity to deeply feel the cultural interference of many ethnic groups living in this land.

    We will continue with the same mountain paths, look at the terraces, visit the small villages of Na Chi and H’mong people. We will have a picnic lunch on the top of the mountain. In the afternoon, we will follow the winding road, the village hidden in the hills. We will go to Homestay at Lung Phinh of Nung people.

  5. Day 5 Lung Phinh – Quan Hoa – Ta Cu Ty

    Being a highland area about 20km to the east of Bac Ha town, with a cool climate, majestic mountains and especially the cultural identity of this place will surely bring visitors many interesting experiences.

    Right from the first road to Ta Cu Ty, visitors can admire the terraced fields with typical features of Northwestern mountains, the villages scattered on the mountain slopes creating a very majestic spectacle. According to Mandarin, Ta Cu Ty means large rice fields, lying between two steep slopes. Therefore, people here mainly cultivate upland rice and grow Shan tea, life is still very difficult.   6. Day 6 Ta Cu Ty – Ban Ngo

    We will have breakfast at Homestay then continue the journey to Ban Ngo. We will walk along the slopes to admire the nature with mountains and green terraces. We will stop at a waterfall, where visitors can relax, soak their feet in the cool water. Then we will visit the Nung village, enjoy tea and talk to the natives. Then continue on the way, we will have lunch at one local house.

    Continuing the trail, along the mountainside we will see the villages hidden next to the terraced fields, we will go to Ban Ngo, spend the night and learn about the culture of the peoples here.

  7. Day 7 Ban Ngo – CocPai – Hoang Su Phi – ban Luoc

    After breakfast, we will continue to walk along the trails, stretching terraced fields, villages of the Nung, we will meet the main road. The bus will pick you up and take you back to CocPai to have lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon we will go to Hoang Su Phi town. Here you can enjoy tea, coffee … then move by car to the homestay in Luoc village. We enjoy traditional dinner and learn about the Red Dao culture.

  8. Day 8 Ban Luoc – Nam Son – Nam Dich

    Breakfast at the homestay, We start trekking about 4 hours along the terraced fields. This is an area of ​​terraced fields, which is classified in the national landscape of terraced fields.

    We will stop at Nam Dich, have lunch at local small restaurant.

    In the afternoon, we will go by car to the city of Ha Giang. On the way there are many beautiful landscapes so the car will stop for you to take pictures. We will spend the night and free at Trường Xuân loge.

  9. Day 9 Ha Giang – Quan Ba – Yen Minh – Dong Van

    Leave Ha Giang and follow road 4C 46km uphill the spectacular Quan Ba Mountain pass for about 3 hours including some stops along the way paying visiting to villages of the Tay and Hmong as well as taking photo of the stunning landscape. From the top of Quan Ba pass which is called Heaven Gate, the panorama of Tam Son valley opens wide below which is highlighted with green rice fields and colorful flower farms, especially the Twin Hill, beautifully set amongst immense and walled-up lime stone mountain. Process gradually downhill shortly to Tam Son Town let and continue to Lung Tam Commune.

    Enjoy half an hour walk through a beautiful village of the Hmong set on the bank of the Mien River before paying visit to the famous handicraft workshop of Hop Tien Co=operative which was established by Mrs. Mai who help more than a hundred Hmong women who were cheated to be sold to China or those who had to suffer from divorced, addicted husbands… to overcome hardship and earn good living by teaching them of different traditional handicraft skills…

    Leaving Lung Tam for an hour road transfer 42km over Yen Minh pass to Yen Minh Town let and lunch break. Arrive in Dong Van in the afternoon, check in guesthouse and free at your leisure to have dinner and stay overnight in Dong Van.

  10. Day 10 Dong Van – Lung Cu – Meo Vac

    Having breakfast at the hotel. Car will take you to Lung Cu, the northeastern end of the country. Visit the village of Lo Lo and H’mong people. Climb on the Lung Cu flagpole, you will see the border between Vietnam and China. In the afternoon, we will return to Dong Van Town for lunch. Then we will move to Meo Vac.

    Continue the road trip downhill 28km passing over the Ma Pi Leng pass which is famous for its magnificence and beauty, composed by walled-up mountains, deep valley and the 800m high canyon and the NhoQue River running in between. Arriving in Meo Vac at about 5.00pm. Check in the hotel and relax.

    Distance: Road transfer 100km, approx.4 hours / Walk, sightseeing, village visiting 2 to 3hours. Stay at hotel.

  11. Day 11 Meo Vac – Ly Bon – Bao Lac – Ba Be

    Having breakfast at the hotel. Today the trip will processes from the high mountainous region of Meo Vac downhill to the Gam river massif, getting through Bao Lac district of Cao Bang and then onto Ba Be National Park. The road trip downhill from MeoVac to Ly Bon which takes about 1.5 hour will be highlighted with several stops along the way to visit a hamlet of the Zao and a village of the Nung peoples near the center of Niem Son commune. Having lunch in Bao Lac then driving for about 4 hours along road 34 before turning to road 212 to Cho Ra and Ba Be. The trip will be highlighted with short visiting to villages of the San Chay and ZaoTien(Zao with coins) along the way. Arriving to the center of Ba Be National Park in the afternoon at about 06.00 PM. Check in hotel, dinner and relax.

    • If on Sunday: Spend an hour early in the morning joining the weekly market in MeoVac town let before leaving.
    • If on the date of the Tiger and Monkey: Early breakfast and then transfer 17km to Lung Phin to attend the famous weekly market where customers have chance to meet Hmong and Zao peoples from remotest villages who come and create festive atmosphere at the market place.
    • If on 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 of the lunar months, spend an hour joining the tribal peoples at Niem Son Market(25km from MeoVac) or even earlier for 2 hours driving to Bao Lac Market where the Black Lo Lo and San Chay peoples can be met.

  12. Day 12 Ba Be boat trip – Thai Nguyen – Hanoi

    Breakfast, check out hotel at 08.00am, and then take 30 minute’s walk through the thick rain forest to the boat pier. Boarding a boat for 3 hours cruising on the clear water of Ba Be, the largest natural lake in the mountainous region of Indochina which is surrounded by high mountains covered by thick forest, getting through the stunning Puong Cave before the end of the boat trip. Meet the car and river again at the end of the boat trip for a short transfer to Cho Ra to have lunch.

    Transfer 237km by road for the whole afternoon via Thai Nguyen to Hanoi. Check in and stay overnight at Boutique Hanoi hotel – Deluxe room.

  13. Day 13 Hanoi – Departure

    Today is your last day in Vietnam so take your chance to do more sightseeing if the time permits. We can also give you some shopping suggestions to bring some interesting souvenirs back home.

    Transfer to the airport for your flight home. Goodbye and see you again soon!

Accommodation and Meals

ACCOMMODATION

Hotel:  We use basic guest house or mini hotels with twin-shared rooms (Please inform us if you want to have a room with a double bed). Upgrades are available on request. The check in (if not stated otherwise) is at 2:00PM, and the check-out is at 12:00PM (noon). An early check in is subject to availability.

Homestay condition: The homestay condition is very basic. The homestay will give you the opportunity to connect with the local culture, as you will stay with a family of an ethnic minority and receive your dinner from them.

MEALS

The breakfast will be either a choice of Western style meals such as pancakes or toasts or Vietnamese meals.For the included lunch and dinner (see inclusions in the daily itinerary description), the meals will be either served in the homestay, campsites or in local restaurants depending on the activities.

If you have any allergies, special requests or if you are on a special diet please let us know. We will arrange it for you in advance.

 

Passport, change of clothes, sunglasses & hat, toiletries, sun-block, insect repellent, flashlights, proper hiking boots/shoes, personal first aid kit & medicine, small VND notes for buying drinks. If you feel the need, you can bring along a luggage lock for your belongings. If you stay in a homestay, keep in mind that the mattresses are thin and you might consider to bring along a sleeping bag. Please inform your travel consultant if you want us to provide a sleeping bag for you.

In order to travel safe, a good insurance is essential. Thus, please ensure that you have booked an appropriate insurance prior departure.

The trekking time is approximate and depends on the weather and the walking speed.

The trekking route can be changed due to external circumstances such as weather (the rain season between June and October can cause muddy paths which can become dangerous). Nevertheless, this should not discourage you from trekking.

If your trip includes camping, your group will be equipped with tents. As mentioned earlier, please ask your travel consultant if you wish to have a sleeping bag.

The trek demands some experience in co-ordination, fitness and stamina. The great effort will be rewarded with fantastic views. Clients should have previous trekking experience. Nevertheless, our guide will be flexible to suggest you the most proper trekking route adapted to your physical fitness

The minimum age we accept is 10 years with no exception. The program is not recommended for seniors (above 65 years) who do not have a good physical fitness

An active and adventurous English-speaking guide specialized in trekking will accompany you throughout the whole trip. Each group member will be further assisted by an experienced local porter, who knows the place extensively and who will carry the main packs.

You need several layers to add or remove depending on the temperature and your activity. You’ll be able to wash some quick-drying things on the way, including underwear and socks. The following is the recommended list of clothing

  • Gore-Tex® waterproof and breathable jacket
  • Poncho or rain cape
  • Micro-fleece sweater or jacket, finer
  • Technical and / or short-sleeved T-shirts (avoid cotton, long to dry)
  • Lightweight trousers canvas
  • Zip trousers, cropped trousers or bermuda shorts
  • Walking socks
  • Underwear
  • Swimsuit
  • Hat, cap or headband to protect from the sun

SHOES

  • A pair of walking shoes, which you are used to (to avoid blisters) for hiking trails.
  • A pair of lighter walking shoes, which will be useful for flights, transfers, site visits and evenings.
  • Pair of flip-flops, sandals or Crocs® type for the toilet
